Brooklyn-born, Antigua-rooted artist Laura James, well-known for her works featuring religious themes and Bible dramatizations, has been undergoing artistic ascension.
James, whose creations will be on display in Manhattan beginning this week, is now expanding her body of work to include sacred images from other traditions, adding to her celebrated pieces using iconography found in Ethiopian Christian art.
Starting Thursday, selected James works – featuring of images of God from Bible stories and paintings of Egyptian, Yoruban, and Indian goddesses – will be on display at the Corridor Gallery of the Interchurch Center Gallery, 475 Riverside Drive (at W.
120th St.).
The show, curated by Frank DeGregorie, runs through Jan. 6 and an opening reception for the exhibit will be held Dec. 8, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
